This on demand 26 week online programme prepares candidates for the demanding role of a Payroll Manager. It is a natural progression from the Payroll Supervisor course and is aimed at those who want to further their careers in payroll management.

Candidates need to have successfully completed the Payroll Supervisor course prior to acceptance on to this programme.

On successful completion of the course students will be awarded a Pearson Edexcel BTEC Diploma in Payroll Management.

Suitable for supervisors with established payroll skills wishing to move into management or for existing managers who want to enhance their current knowledge with new skills while gaining a recognised qualification.

The course focuses on the candidate’s own management skills as well as the management of resources. It covers the learning content of the Payroll Supervisor programme, as well as the following:

  • Managing the payroll function
  • Human Resource management
  • Managing the pension function

Candidates need to complete 5 modules, 2 of which build on the Payroll Supervisor course:

Compliance Procedures in Employment Law

  • Critically analyse issues that effect the formation of contracts of employment
  • Evaluate working time regulations
  • Evaluate the impact of redundancy legislation
  • Produce strategies for ensuring compliance with regulations

Managing the Payroll Environment

  • Critically analyse the risk of disaster affecting payroll systems
  • Evaluate the principles and effectiveness of staff development techniques
  • Develop strategy for managing the setting of targets and preparation of appraisals
  • Deveop a strategy for managing data protection.

Managing the Payroll Function

  • Examine strategies for managing system change
  • Investigate strategies for managing internal and external audits
  • Examine strategies of budget development and control
  • Examine strategies for managing the development, production and introduction of compliant policies

Human Resources Management

  • Analyse the contribution of human resources management to the achievement of organisational objectives
  • Evaluate the ways in which an organisation’s structure and culture may contribute to human resources performance
  • Analyse factors likely to shape future human resources requirements
  • Analyse the ways in which the performance of human resources may be enhanced.

Managing the Role of Pensions

  • Examine the role and duties of trustees, administrators and actuaries within pension schemes
  • Investigate the principles of the Pensions Act and later legislation
  • Investigate strategies for managing members and scheme records
  • Investigate strategies for managing policies and procedures aimed at minimising fraud or embezzlement of schemes
